Home page & About this trip..
This is a UK coastline charity drive for
the following charities:
Driver and Challenge Planner: Andy Hardwick ( Scunthorpe , Lincolnshire )
Maintenance and Driver: Daniel Moore ( Skipton , N Yorks )
The Aim
Welcome to our drive for charity, our aim is to raise money for four worthy causes that have had an impact on our lives.
The Plan
We intend to drive around the coastline of mainland Great Britain
starting 8th April 2007, in a Land Rover Discovery, using only minor roads and trying to keep the sea in view as much as possible. We will be camping out along the route, taking the majority of supplies with us on board, the fuel being purchased as and when required.
We aim to cover the distance (unknown as yet) in about 21
Days; it may seem a long time but it's important to realise that the coastline of Great Britain is in the region of 11,000 miles long!
Our aim is not a record time but only to cover the distance and raise money in the process for worthy causes. We will also require maintenance days on route adding to the time schedule.
A prize for the nearest mileage driven on the challenge will also be on offer!
Humber Bridge Crossing
Towards the end of our journey, we're also attempting a
"Longest Bridge 4x4
crossing" at the end of the challenge, this being a
4x4 nose to tail crossing of the Humber Bridge
(Humber Bridge website: www.humberbridge.co.uk
).
The convoy will then proceed to Kirton Off Road Centre
(KORC) for the finish of the event.
An update on the exact time & date will be made available nearer the time on
our Day
by Day page, so please check back here in
April.
Media & Press Coverage
We are trying to involve as many outlets as possible,
and we're also asking for local radio stations and newspapers to do some form of
coverage as make our way around the UK coastline. If
you would like to help us, please give our website
address to your local newspaper or radio station - the
more coverage we get, the more money we raise for our
chosen charities!
Sponsors of the trip
Graves Transport Ltd. has kindly confirmed to be our primary sponsor and have donated the cost of fuel.
Our local off-road centre KORC Kirton in Lindsey,
www.korc.co.uk
will be our point of departure and the finishing line for when we complete the challenge.
Thanks must go also to Trespass
(Clothing) for their tremendous support.
We also aim to have a "Sign the Discovery for a pound day" at TESCOS in Scunthorpe on the 7th of April, the day before departure, hopefully being covered by the
Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph.
We're also hoping to have our story covered by Barnoldswick
and Earby Times amongst others. Thank you to Sue Ritchie for a fantastic write up about the Charity Challenge in the Barnoldswick
and Earby Times on page 3 of Friday 16th edition.
